Short biography from the Neoclassical painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres ( 1780 - 1876 ).

The Neoclassical painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, born in Montauban, France, 1780. This French painter was in the 19th century one of the leading portrait painters. The first educations in Art works he had from his father, Joseph Ingres. Ingres had lessons from G. Roques and J. Vigan on the Royal Academy of Arts in Toulon, 1791. After that he went to Paris and worked in the workshop of David, ca 1797. The Neoclassical painter stayed, lived and worked in Italy from 1806 till 1824. He returned in 1824 back to Paris, France. He traveled again to Italy in 1835 to worked for the French Academy for Arts in Rome as a director. He worked there till 1841. Ingres died at the age of 86 in 1867.
